Our group organised 2 more seminars in the second half of 2019 and they were held in August and September 2019.
On 17 August afternoon, the seminar at the Regent Hotel, entitled ‘Meet the Infectious Disease Specialists seminar: HIV 2019: New Perspectives and New Goals’ was presented by the following 4 speakers:
- Dr Lam Mun San’s talk was entitled “Update from 2019 IAS Conference On HIV Science”,
- “What’s New in Anti-retroviral Therapy” was presented by Dr Wong Sin Yew,
- “Management of HIV Infection in Women” by Dr Jaime Chien, Consultant, Dept of Infectious Diseases at Changi General Hospital
- “HIV Related Malignancies” by Dr Richard Quek, Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology at Parkway Cancer Centre
Feedback was received via the online platform. The participants found all speakers’ presentations to be very informative. The participants enjoyed Dr Quek’s presentation as it provided information on the AIDS defining cancers and the other non AIDS cancers that commonly occur in HIV infected patients.
The ‘Meet the Infectious Disease Specialists’ seminar titled ‘ Antibiotic Endgame?’ was held on 14 Sept afternoon, at the Shangri La Hotel. Other than Dr Wong and Dr Lam, our 3 guest speakers were all also infectious disease physicians from the restructured hospitals and NUS.
The first 3 speakers were:
- Assoc Prof Tan Ban Hock, Chief Quality Officer, SGH & Senior Consultant, Department of Infectious Diseases, Singapore General Hospital who spoke on “Antibiotic Use: Safety And Quality Issues”
- Dr Lam on “Update On Antibiotic Options In Gram Positive Infections”
- Dr Wong on “Update On Antibiotic Options In Gram Negative Infections”
Thereafter there was a panel discussion on “Defining Appropriate Antibiotic Use: Are You Being Practical or Should You Be A Purist?”
The discussants were :
- Assoc Prof Tan Ban Hock
- Dr David Allen, Visiting Professor at Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and a Senior Fellow of the Courage Fund, Singapore
- Dr Lee Tau Hong, Consultant, Department of Infectious Diseases, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Director, AMR Coordinating Office, NCID
Dr Wong presented three case studies, and included questions for audience participation. There was a lively discussion by the panel speakers on the diagnosis and management of the cases. Participation amongst the discussants themselves and with the audience was active. Survey feedback also showed that the participants enjoyed such panel discussions on clinical cases.
We thank our 2 sponsors for the two seminars, Johnson &Johnson (August seminar) and Pfizer (September seminar) for their generous financial and logistic support for the venue and the food. We are also grateful to all our guest speakers for their informative presentations and their assistance with CME for family physicians!

June 25, 2026 at 8:31 pmA piece that read as the work of someone who reads carefully themselves, and a look at stridertorch continued that informed feel, writers who are also serious readers produce work with a different quality and this site reads as the product of someone steeped in good writing rather than just generating content for an audience.

June 26, 2026 at 2:08 amJust want to record that this site is entering my regular reading list, and a look at siskatrance confirmed it deserves the spot, my regular reading list is short and well curated and adding to it requires meeting a fairly high quality bar that this site has clearly cleared without much effort apparently.

June 26, 2026 at 6:13 pmFound this through a search that was generic enough I did not expect quality results, and a look at vesseltame continued the surprisingly good experience, search engines occasionally still surface excellent independent content if you scroll past the obvious paid and high authority results which is reassuring to remember sometimes.

June 26, 2026 at 10:03 pmReading carefully this time rather than scanning, and the depth shows up in places I missed first time around, and a look at singersorbet rewarded the same careful approach, content that holds up to multiple reads is content I want more of in my regular rotation rather than disposable scroll fodder daily.

June 27, 2026 at 5:40 amReally appreciate that the writer did not stretch the post to hit some target word count, the points end when they are made, and a stop at waferturtle reflected the same discipline, brevity is generosity in disguise and this site has clearly figured that out far better than most blog operations have.
